NHEHS students Hannah (Year 11) and Deepa (Year 13) were among a GDST Select XI who took on Marylebone Cricket Club(MCC) Women in a competitive match at Hampstead Cricket Club, London today.
Students from schools across the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) competed against professional players including Charlotte Edwards and Beth Barrett-Wild. The match was set-up to inspire the next generation of girls to play cricket.
England cricket superstar Lydia Greenway coached the GDST team, who battled the elements in the 20-20 over match, which saw MCC win by 115 – 71 runs.
Charlotte Edwards, MCC Women said, “Seeing these girls playing here today makes me just as happy as England winning the World Cup final. This match is all about the spirit of cricket. It’s so important that girls are given the opportunity to play in school to help us provide opportunities for the next generation. Now is such an exciting time for women’s cricket and I’m thrilled to be part of today’s match.”
