Music is a particular strength of the school and a joy to take part in and listen to!
Standards of attainment are very high with all classes having two lessons a week taught by a specialist teacher.
In Year 2 girls are offered taster sessions with different instruments and in Year 3 they learn to play the recorder. Singing is taught in music lessons and visitors always comment on how well girls sing in assembly. As well as being enjoyable and sociable, singing in a group develops focus and concentration so it has a special part to play in school life. Each class has a performance opportunity at some point during the year which showcases their singing and musical skills.
Each year group also has the opportunity to perform musically either in assembly or as part of special class performances. There is a school orchestra (in which around 100 girls are involved), a wind band, recorder ensemble and a choir and chamber choir.
Many girls take individual music lessons with visiting peripatetic teachers. These are available to girls from Year 3 upwards and the School Office can let you have details of charges.
