Stimulating young minds

As they join our Junior School, we help young girls to fall in love with learning. We build on their natural curiosity and interests, through a carefully balanced programme of structured learning alongside creative exploration. Skilful guidance and exposure to a broad range of thought-provoking experiences enable our girls to thrive and excel.

Our integrated curriculum encourages young minds to look at a given topic from multiple viewpoints. As teachers, we know this leads to deeper understanding and prepares children for their future, but for the girls it simply means being immersed in a topic and the joy of becoming experts. This approach is complemented by specialist teaching in Science, Music, Sport and Languages, often in bespoke spaces within the Junior and Senior Schools.

We pride ourselves on building the foundations that are central to an enjoyable and successful life in school, and beyond. When children are happy, confident and excited by challenges, they can make the most of the opportunities available to them and achieve their potential. It is why we put so much effort into creating a warm, supportive and friendly culture. Our girls literally skip into school, happy to be here and keen to see what the day will bring.

We help them to articulate their own ideas in an encouraging setting, where kindness to others is expected and highly valued. This creates a culture where girls feel safe to express themselves and explore ideas together. It builds an even deeper love of learning, and better understanding of people, as well as subjects.

Our New Junior School

In November we unveiled a new building for our Junior School students. This inspiring design provides a state-of-the-art learning environment for our Junior girls as they begin their education with us, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and significantly enhanced landscaping to enable external play and exploration.

💙💛❤️💚 The fabulous finish to the spring term for Year 3 continued yesterday with the Year 3 House Olympics. Following last week’s craft day inspired by the Ancient Greeks (see our Reel), it was time for the girls to get competitive!

Girls competed for their Houses as Athenians, Spartans, Corinthians & Argives (residents of Argos) in various competitions including running backwards, javelin and balloon pankration! 
It was a tight battle between the Houses, but in the end the winners were Austen!

Last week our U9 and U10 netball teams travelled the short distance to Harrow to take part in the Orley Farm Netball Tournament. For many of the girls, this was their first time playing competitive netball.

For the U9s, the tournament featured Bee netball, which differs slightly from the traditional 7-aside game, with 5 players on court, lower goal posts, played with a size 4 ball, and players rotating positions after each match.

In the round-robin format, both A & B teams showcased their skills. The A team emerged triumphant, winning three matches, and securing a draw, clinching the top spot to the sheer delight of their players. Meanwhile, the B team also displayed prowess, triumphing in two matches, and narrowly losing one.

This was a great outcome and provided a positive experience for all the girls, who really enjoyed their first ever netball tournament.

Three Year 5 teams also took part in their age group competition at the same tournament. Reflecting on last year’s U9 tournament, which was cut short by thunderstorms, they were all hopeful for a better experience this time around!

Each of the three teams played a minimum of 4 matches, each lasting 7 minutes one way. The As emerged victorious in all their preliminary games and advanced to face Highgate in the final. Despite anticipating a tough match, the girls exhibited determination and skill, ultimately triumphing with a score of 5-0.

Meanwhile, the B and C teams played in a round-robin format, displaying improved teamwork and skills as they secured victories in all their matches.

As the tournament drew to a close, all three NHEHS netball teams emerged as champions in their respective categories. It was an outstanding result and a thrilling conclusion to the netball season for all involved.

🏃‍♀️Last week an enthusiastic group of sixteen Years 3 to 6 girls proudly represented NHEHS in the Falkner House Cross Country competition. The picturesque setting of Battersea Park provided the backdrop for this event, on a lovely spring day, ideal for cross-country running.

The 800m course, proved to be a challenging terrain, winding its way through trees and featuring steep inclines — a true cross-country course. Year 3 and 4 participants completed one lap, while those in Year 5 and 6 tackled the course twice. Remarkably, all our NHEHS girls completed the demanding course unscathed — a testament to their resilience and determination.

A special accolade goes to the Year 5 team, who clinched the top spot in their year group standings. Cissie crossed the finish line in second place, followed closely by Maya in third, Anna in fourth, and Isabella in fifth — an impressive display of teamwork and individual excellence. Additionally, Zucci delivered a commendable performance, securing third place in the Year 6 race. The encouragement and support given by members of the team showcased the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Well done to all who participated, contributing to a successful event.
