Choir of the Year

This week, Year 6 travelled to The Cadogan Hall to sing in the final of the GDST Young Choir of the Year. Six choirs, including Notting Hill & Ealing, were competing and the day’s programme started with a welcome message from Cheryl Giovannoni, the Chief Executive of the GDST. First up were Kensington Prep, followed by NHEHS who sang ‘A Broadway Song’ and ‘From a Distance’. Our girls were absolutely outstanding and their second song in particular moved many of us to tears. Next came Blackheath and then Bromley.  There was then a short interval with ice cream, a welcome delight on such a warm day!

After the break, Oxford High and Howell’s School, Llandaff performed their pieces. The judges: Suzi Digby OBE, Martha Burke & Susannah Self, then left to decide the winner and  all the girls from all the choirs came together and sang ‘Sing’ by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow.

Our congratulations go to the eventual winners Blackheath but also to everyone who took part. We were extremely proud of our girls, both for their outstanding singing and for showing how a choir can be the ultimate team performance and experience. Special thanks go to Mrs Burgess for all her hard work and dedication, not only for this event, but for all the music she inspires at NHEHS!
