Elizabeth Takes Gold in German Olympiad!
We are delighted to announce that Year 12 Elizabeth was selected as the winner of the German Olympiad organised by Oxford German Network. The Oxford German Network is an initiative by the German department of the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, University of Oxford, dedicated to productive cross-cultural cooperation involving schools, cultural organisations, businesses, and policy-makers.
Elizabeth took part in the competition for Years 12-13 and her challenge was to plan a conference on climate change for 16-18 year olds, including advertising the event and programme with keynote lectures and topics for roundtable discussion. The title of the conference was “Klimawandel – was können Jugendliche tun?” – Climate change – what can young people do? Read Elizabeth’s winning entry here.
Other competition challenges included writing a blog post or creating a video with the title “Vorsprung durch Technik – Rückschritt für die Natur?” (Progress in technology – a step backwards for nature?) or record yourself giving a presentation on “Fahrerloser Verkehr – Utopie oder künftige Wirklichkeit?” (Driverless traffic – utopia or future reality?) or “Techno-Pop – Typisch deutsch?” (Techno-Pop – typically German?)
Although the Prize Giving for the 2020 Olympiad has been postponed, The Oxford German Network are hoping to hold the event in April 2021. See all the winning entries here.
