Female Composers

Our  ‘Female Composers Concert’ on 12th June was held in celebration of the centenary of the ‘Representation of the People’ act of 1918 which allowed some women to have the vote for the first time.

Students presented works by a variety of female composers, from the Classical, Jazz, Pop and Film music genres. It was also an opportunity for our own student composers to showcase their work with Bethan playing one of her GCSE compositions written for flute and piano and Session Orchestra performing two movements from a piece they had composed in their sessions.

Other highlights included a dynamic performance by Emilia of Cecile Chaminade’s ‘Concertino’ and Jazz Band’s arrangement of ‘John R’ by the jazz harpist Dorothy Ashby.
