"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Harrow Club Christmas Appeal – 7 Day Challenges

It’s been a big week of challenges for our staff and students as they tested their resilience and endurance skills to fundraise for The Harrow Club as part of their Christmas Appeal 2020 over the first seven days of December. Every penny we raised this week from our challenges and card sales were matched by Harrow Club corporate sponsors.

NHEHS are partnering up with The Harrow Club. The Harrow Club has been working to support young people in challenging circumstances for over 135 years. They offer a safe space to spend evenings, a place to learn new things and a place to gain experiences they otherwise wouldn’t have. They work with up to 5000 young people each week across 6 clubs, helping them to recognise their full potential.

Congratulations to all below who took on and conquered their own unique challenges!

– Miss O’Connor ran 40km
– Daria (Year 9) learned 350 new Latin words and was grilled by Mr Shoults about her new vocabulary
– Rithi and Harinee (Year 10) wrote 50 thank you letters each to NHS workers over the course of the week
– Aanya, Rahel and Aswini (Year 8) recorded themselves reading a book each over the 7 days to send to a local care home
– Ruby (Year 8) baked a new recipe every day for a week
– Esha (Year 6) read 100 pages of a book each day for a week
– Deya (Year 5) pledged to do 30-40 minutes of piano practice every day until the challenge ends
– Leila (Year 5) aimed to shoot 100 goals in her netball post over the week
– Lana (Year 5) challenged herself to do 1,000 kick ups combined throughout the week
– Lilia (Year 6) drew pictures for the NHS throughout the week
– Mia (Year 5) practised the oboe every day of the challenge
– 7D as a tutor group learned words in a new language each day

So far, our Just Giving page stands at £1350 with donations during December 1st – 7th which will be matched by corporate sponsors. The page will stay open for donations until the end of term if you would like to give anything towards the appeal.

We have also been selling our beautiful Christmas cards for the charity designed by Year 8s Sophie (the stag) & Nairi (the holly) both in school and via Parent Pay. These have raised over £450 already, with most matched by the corporate sponsors.

Ten hampers will be going to The Harrow Club from our Year 7 hamper competition which is being judged on Thursday.

Finally, several of our Year 12s have volunteered to help in the club in the New Year and in the longer term, we look forward to working with The Harrow Club on events like debate boxing and motor cross.

Many thanks to all students, staff, parents, alumnae and their families, friends and neighbours who have donated to our appeal. Thank you.
