¡Hola Cantabria!
By Shreya & Sarah-Jane, Year 8
55 of our Year 8 Spanish linguists travelled to Cantabria in the north of Spain for their four day MFL residential trip at the end of June.
Flying into Bilbao, we enjoyed a busy schedule of Spanish culture & language during our stay, starting with a visit to Santander on the first day, where the girls enjoyed taking in the city’s rich history and shopping in the old market.
The next day saw us exploring the beautiful surroundings of the Picos de Europa National Park before riding the vertiginous Fuente De cable car to marvel at the mirador.
From the lofty heights of the mountains one day to deep caves on the next, we enjoyed following in the footsteps of the zinc miners who discovered the geological gem that is El Soplao at the turn of the 19th century. Finally, we took in the wonderful medieval town of Santillana Del Mar.
We also enjoyed our flamenco dancing, practised yoga, beach combing, making new friendships and, of course, managed to practise our Spanish!
We thoroughly enjoyed the Spanish trip. The excursions were very exciting. As well as having lots of fun we learnt a lot about Spain’s culture and language.
One of our favourite excursions was the Guggenheim Museum as we got to see exquisite pieces of art from around the world. Before this we went to a dance workshop, where we learnt two different styles of dance. Our favourite was the Latin American workshop. This trip really sparked our love for the Spanish language and we would love to return.
