In the Careers Spotlight – Guneet Anand
The Sixth Form were delighted to welcome Guneet Anand back to NHEHS this morning for one of our regular ‘Careers Spotlight’ talks.
From the very beginning of her talk, Guneet shared how our students do not need a fully itemised plan of life aged eighteen. After leaving school she read for degree in Health and Human Sciences which led her to working in consultancy. Aware that the corporate workplace was not well-suited to her own motivations and aspirations in life, she shared how she transitioned from consultancy to being a prison officer (via some time working for charities).
These non-linear career tracks are exceptionally important for our students to hear at this stage in their education. It can be tempting to think of one’s future as a series of key steps towards one obvious goal, but of course this is rarely the case in reality. It was a humbling opportunity for our Sixth Formers to hear from an alumna who spoke with such compassion and energy about what motivates her to be a changemaker in an exceptionally complex field.
Thank you to Guneet for sharing her experiences with us.
