Into the Blue at NHEHS Fashion Show
Earlier this week we enjoyed the annual NHEHS Charity Fashion Show, organised by Art Reps Grace and Bella.
The Year 12 Reps put sustainability on their catwalk – while also raising awareness and funds for charity Surfers Against Sewage. Their theme ‘Into the Blue’, was creatively expressed with some amazing outfits in three catwalks: The tie-dye series, A Hats & Fascinators series and A Runway series with full outfits designed by the girls using recycled materials and considerable creative expression. There was fantastic creativity and teamwork by all girls involved, both on the catwalk and behind the scenes.
The judges, Antonia Kraskowski, fashion editor & content editor, Tamara Hill-Norton, founder and director of Sweaty Betty and Meg Cope, founder of Zaccys London, faced a considerable task but after much deliberation offered two special mentions to “The Incredible Octopus” designed by Anika in Year 7 and “The Shark” designed by Roma in Year 7.
The three overall winners: in third place, Matilda in Year 8 who designed a wave themed multi-layered skirt. In second place, Georgia & Jaspreet in Year 7 whose plastic woven bodice as part of a coral reef inspired dress was identified by the judges as a standout design for the sheer hard work it involved and in first place, Georgia in Year 10, whose top to bottom outfit made from IKEA bags emphasising the role `fast fashion’ has in polluting our oceans, impressed the judges for ingenuity and creativity.
Prizes awarded were an amazing sea-themed cake made by Georgia in Year 12, a Sweaty Betty voucher and the top prize, a day out on a film set with the chance to be an extra.
Huge congratulations to all entrants – a record number entered the competition this year.
Also thanks to our resident photographer for the evening, Isobel in Year 12 (please see our Instagram account for her stories and highlight photos). A special well done too to Anna and Georgia also in Year 12 who were in charge of music and lights and created the most amazing water effect across the catwalk. And of course to our Art Technician, Shuk, who supported the team immensely.
And thank you to Generation XX, our resident rock band who provided pre-show entertainment.
