Knit & Knatter – The Perfect Distraction from Lockdown
By Alice Jenkins, Year 10 Journalist Leader
I have discovered a new hobby in lockdown: knitting. I have knitted on and off since I was 6, but never managed to knit anything with more than 5 rows before giving up.
However, I recently managed to finish a baby jumper for a relative, thanks to the NHEHS knitting club. I have attended for a few weeks and loved it! Every Wednesday after school, students from a range of year groups meet up to ‘Knit and Knatter.’ As Korina in Year 10 summed up perfectly, ‘Knitting Club is the perfect place for us all to get together and do something we enjoy, while having a good chat!’
Run by Sixth formers, and Ms Pearson, there is plenty of knitting expertise to make up for anyone lacking in knitting knowledge. Knitting club has gathered quite a following over the years and is particularly popular with those wanting to learn a new skill for their DofE. As such, many people have continued to attend knitting club over google meet while we are remote learning. While it is a bit more difficult to have a lively discussion over the internet, it works quite well and is a very welcome distraction from revision and lockdown!
Thank you in particular to Immi, Sophie B and Avani: three of knitting club’s most loyal followers. You will be missed!
