NHEHS Junior Alice Runs, Cycles and Swims to Fundraise for Duchenne Dash
The lockdown presented new challenges and opportunities for many of our pupils. Here’s what Alice, one of our NHEHS Juniors got up to this summer:

I wanted to tell you about some of the things I managed to achieve for charity during lockdown.
I’m a very active person with a big passion for sport, so when we entered lockdown I was at first very frustrated. However, a friend made me aware of a charity event that she was supporting for such a wonderful cause. The charity is called Duchenne UK and is run to fund research into this deadly disease that only affects men. The challenge was to complete 50 miles or more in the month by either cycling, running, walking, swimming and rowing. More than 300 people took part.
Running was my weakest point as I had little stamina and was out of practice, but I persevered. I was super pleased with what I achieved through daily cycling, running, walking and some swimming. In total I raised £200, my team raised £3,985 and altogether we raised over £459,000. Together we united to raise awareness and to make the incurable, curable!
When I started the course, I was not that good at getting that many miles in within the time, but now I am getting the hang of all the activities. I was able to get 64 miles in the month of June.
Congratulations Alice on a fantastic fitness fundraiser!
