Robotics Final

Congratulations to our team of girls from Years 7-11 who are through to the UK finals of the FIRST Lego League robotics competition having won their regional competition, part of an annual  global science and technology competition that attracts over 250,000 young people each year.  2016 is the first year NHEHS has entered a team.

This year’s competition was based on the theme ‘Animal Allies’. The team played three timed matches, in which they programmed their robot to complete various animal-related challenges. They also gave a presentation to a panel of judges, who then asked the whole team lots of questions.

The team presented a concept design for a product called ‘Woof Wheels’, a suitcase to hold your dog’s belongings when going on holiday which also doubles as a travel bed. They really impressed the judges with their understanding of materials and manufacturing processes and the judges were also wowed by the design of the robot, being particularly impressed by the use of colour sensors and programming.

The team are now preparing for the UK and Ireland final, which will take place at the end of February.
