"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

The Last Live Lockdown Teatime Concert?

By Zara Bhayani, Year 11

On the afternoon of Thursday the 25th of February, students across all year groups were invited to perform in a virtual teatime concert.

About 20 musicians took part, taking turns to introduce their piece of music with an interesting fact before proceeding to perform. We enjoyed multiple pieces for piano, flute, voice and violin along with other instruments. Despite some occasional technical difficulties, I thought it was an extremely rewarding experience, providing me with some useful performance practice ahead of my Grade 6 piano exam next month. I’m sure that other students with ABRSM exams approaching will have also benefited from this concert.

Ms Dunne’s occasional jokes and positive comments after each performance raised everyone’s spirits, cancelling out the slight frustration of WiFi issues. At the end of the concert, Mr Shoults gave some words of praise, calling the performances “the highlight of his day.”

It would have been great to hear everyone in real life but I’m glad that the music department has found a way to keep events going even though we’re not physically in school. I look forward to participating in more musical events in the future; hopefully the next ones won’t be virtual!
