These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Selena’s Top Tips for Eco Friendly Gardening

Many people have been taking up gardening as a great way to unwind during the lockdown, so Year 10 Eco Rep Selena has come up with some top tips for eco friendly gardening:

Set up a compost heap with leftover foods. Click here on how to make compost for the first time.

When you go for your next food shop, why not pick up some seeds and experiment to see what you can grow.

Support the natural environment and ecosystems – allow insects in and try to be pesticide-free. Your garden will thrive and you’ll be helping to tackle the major lack of bees, which not many people are actually aware of.

Try to grow lots of different species of plants.

Use earthworms to speed up your composting process.

Try to grow your own food. It gives you something satisfying and productive to do and the end product is delicious, fresh and cheap!

Save seeds to replant later.

Don’t waste water – just water the roots, not the leaves, as these are the parts that will absorb water.

For more eco tips, keep an eye on the Eco Reps Board on the Student Noticeboard which is updated weekly. Or if you have tips of your own, please share them with us!
